Ray C. Stine, age 90, a resident of Providence Place of Chambersburg for the past several months and formerly of Stull Road Greencastle, PA died at 9:00 AM Thursday, May 12, 2016 in Providence Place.

Born October 19, 1925 in Shady Grove, PA, he was the son of the late George “Dude” and Emma (Shank) Stine. He married Margaret G. (Gsell) Stine on January 25, 1947.

Ray was employed for 33 years at the Waynesboro Construction Co. where he was a foreman.  Later, he was employed by and retired from the National Park Service where he was a master carpenter doing restoration work at the Gettysburg National Battlefield.

Ray was a US Marine Corps Veteran of World War II where he fought in the Asiatic- Pacific Battles of Bougainville, Iwo Jima and also Guam, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart Medal.
He was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Waynesboro. Ray also was a member of the NRA and he enjoyed hunting and wood carving. He also loved being with all the family dogs over the years.

In addition to his wife, surviving family are two sons, Thomas R. Stine and wife Nancy of Greencastle, Terry L. Stine and wife Cheree of Greencastle, three grandchildren, Amy, Rebekah, Jeremy, one great-granddaughter Allie and one brother George Stine Jr. of Waynesboro.

In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two sisters Dorothy Williams and Janet Suffecool and an infant granddaughter Jennifer Stine.

Funeral services will be held on Monday May 16 at 2:00 PM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor Drahus Oslik officiating. Burial with graveside military honors provided by the Chambersburg VFW Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Evangelical Lutheran Church 43 S. Church St. Waynesboro, PA 17268 or to the Shady Grove Boy Scout Troop # 95 c/o Christine Henning 13498 Joann Drive Greencastle, PA 17225. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.
