Ray C. Hege, age 88 of 8027 Charlestown Rd., Mercersburg, PA. died at 6:13 P.M. Monday, March 9, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born May 8, 1920 in Welsh Run, PA., he was the son of the late John Calvin and Rhoda (Shoemaker) Hege.

He was a retired farmer and had also worked at the former Grossnickel Chevrolet Garage of Mercersburg.

Mr. Hege was a member of the Greencastle Church of The Brethren and was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. In his earlier years he was a member of the Welsh Run Church Of The Brethren, served as a forest firefighter and was a member of the Shining Light Youth Group of the Greencastle area.

He and his wife, Orvetta (Harnish) Hege were married March 28, 1947 in Mercersburg, PA.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of nearly 62 years are, two daughters, Orvetta M. (wife of Ronald) Monn of Mercersburg, PA. and Susan M. (wife of Jay) Horst of Chambersburg, PA., one son, William J. (husband of Maretta) Hege of Mercersburg, PA, two sisters, Mildred Hege of Mercersburg, PA and Grace Martynenko of Philadelphia, PA., one brother, George Hege of Toms River, NJ., two grandchildren, Pamela Naugle and Stephanie Horst and two great-grandchildren, Nicholas Naugle and Tyler Naugle.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Hege Helman and three brothers, John C. Hege, Harry Hege, and Samuel Hege.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the Greencastle Church of The Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Welsh Run Church of The Brethren Cemetery near Welsh Run, Pa. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his memory to the Greencastle Church of The Brethren, 36 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
