Ralph F. Naessig, age 86 a resident of Providence Place of Chambersburg, Pa. and formerly of 3365 West View Circle Greencastle, Pa. passed away at 4:16 A.M. Tuesday, April 27, 2010 in Providence Place. He had been in failing health for the past several months.

Born July 30, 1923 in Lakewood, N.J., he was the son of Frederick and Bessie (Gifford) Naessig. He spent his early life in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

He and his wife, Rosalie E. (Papatopoli) Naessig a resident of Providence Place were married April 22, 1944.

Ralph graduated from Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre in 1943 and attended Williamsport Technical School.

He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army 317th infantry having been deployed in France, Germany and Austria. He received the Purple Heart with oak cluster for wounds received in combat.

Ralph was employed by Mack Trucks of Hagerstown for 35 years having retired in 1986. He was a life member and past commander of the Chambersburg D.A.V., life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle and a life member of the former Chambersburg Beagle club.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 66 years are one daughter Rosalie Grosh and husband Marvin of Chambersburg, two sons Wayne R. Naessig and wife Barbara of Knoxville TN., Fred E. Naessig and wife Lita of Greencastle, one granddaughter, three grandsons, three great-grandchildren, two sisters, Shirley Lesnoski and Carolyn Byrne, both of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

A graveside service with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. will be held on Saturday May 1 at 11:00 A.M. from the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle with Rev. Ronald Milley officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle where the Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Chambersburg D.A.V. 2705 Lincoln Way West Chambersburg, Pa. 17201 or to Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice 1200 Walnut Bottom Rd.
