Rachel A. Horst, age 98, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at Menno Haven Village Square. Born November 23, 1923, in Leitersburg, MD, she was the daughter of the late Arron and Vallie Barkdoll Oberholzer.
Mrs. Horst was a graduate of Hagerstown High School. She went on to work as a secretary at the former Charlton Bros. Trucking Co. in Hagerstown and lastly at McDowell Insurance company, where she retired after 25 years of service. Mrs. Horst was a member of Cedar Grove Mennonite Church. An avid quilter, she donated many hours to Cumberland Valley Relief Center making quilts, which were highly sought after at the local charity sales.
Surviving is her daughter, Carolyn Meyer (husband Michael) of Parker, CO. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Karl E. Horst and five siblings, Wilmer and Raymond Oberholzer and Vada Henesy, Josephine Grove, and Inez Culp.
Interment in Cedar Grove Mennonite Church Cemetery will be private. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Life Center at Menno Haven, 1500 Northfield Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201, where Pastor Steve Fritz will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Menno Haven Benevolent Fund, 2011 Scotland Ave., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
