Phyllis Long

Phyllis E. Long, age 86 a resident of Penn Hall, Chambersburg, PA. since August 2003 and formerly of 6645 Long Road Greencastle, PA. died at 4:40 P.M. Monday July 28, 2008 in the Penn Hall Nursing Center Chambersburg.

Born October 30, 1921 in Mercersburg, PA., she was the daughter of the late Earl C. and Agnes (Neikirk) Witter.
Mrs. Long was a homemaker and a member of the Hades Church of the Brethren near Greencastle.

She and her husband, John D. Long were married on March 14, 1942 in Hampton, Pa. He died on December 19, 2007.

Surviving family are two sons, J. David Long, Greencastle, PA., Mark W. Long, Mercersburg, PA.; three daughters, Naomi E. Stambaugh, Winchester, VA., Lois A. Hilty, Thomasville, PA., Dorcas M. Lehigh, Rochester, N.Y., three brothers, Roger Witter, Mechanicsburg, PA., S. Eugene Witter, East Berlin, PA., Robert Witter, York Haven, PA., five sisters, Marilynn Rice, Palmyra, PA., Geraldine Schildt, Hanover, PA., Mary Winter, Gratz, PA., Dorothy Potteiger, Orrstown, PA., Janet Lehman, Newville, PA., 20 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 2 at 10:30 A.M. from the Welsh Run Church of the Brethren 11420 Welsh Run Rd. Mercersburg, PA. with ministers Donald Clapper, George Martin and Dean Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA. on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday.
