Phyllis H. "Phil" Hoover, age 91 a resident of the Heritage Hills Retirement Home Greencastle and formerly of 249 South Washington St. Greencastle died at 8:55 P.M. Tuesday April 28, 2009 in the retirement home.
Born December 28, 1917 in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles A.R. and Helen L. (Beattie) Holbert.
She was a homemaker and operated The Casual Shoppe formerly of Greencastle. In her earlier years she worked at the former GEM Garment and Palace Restaurant, both of Greencastle.
Mrs. Hoover was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle. She was a 1935 graduate of Greencastle High School. She enjoyed playing cards weekly for over 60 years with her card group.
She and her husband, Charles K. Hoover were married in March 1941. He died on September 1, 1976.
Surviving family are one daughter, D. Kay Button of Hagerstown, Md., one son, C. Gregory Hoover, Greencastle, Pa. two brothers, John W. Holbert, Mechanicsburg, Pa., Larry D. Holbert, Greencastle, Pa., a sister, M. Helen Pingree, Kennewick, Washington, seven grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Robert Holbert and a grandson Timothy Button in 1997.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 2 at 11:00 A.M. from the First United Methodist Church 45 N. Washington St. Greencastle with Rev. Stacy A. Crawford officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Saturday. Memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Heritage Hills Retirement Community 2256 Shanks Church Rd.
