Paul G. Swope, age 88 a resident of the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Chambersburg and formerly of 5643 Third St. Marion, Pa. died at 8:15 P.M. Saturday March 21, 2009 in the nursing home.

Born August 17, 1920 in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Earl G. and Florence E. (Shatzer) Swope.
Mr. Swope was a machinist employed for 25 years at the former Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, having retired in 1984. He was a member of the Marion United Methodist Church, life member of the Rescue Hose Co. #1 of Greencastle, life member of the Marion Volunteer Fire Co., where he served with the Fire Police Unit and was a member of the former Junior Order (J.O.U.A.M.) of Marion.

He was also a member of the Penna. State Fire Police Association and a post member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle. Paul was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He and his wife, Alice K. (Goetz) Swope were married July 6, 1940 in Winchester, Va. She died on December 13, 2004.

Surviving family are four sons, Robert L. Swope, Arlington Texas, Thomas "Tom" H. Swope, Chambersburg, Theodore "Ted" G. Swope, Marion, Pa. and Garry L. Swope, Chambersburg, ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Brenda Swope in 1946, son George E. Swope in 1996 and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 25 at 1:30 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Chris Renner officiating. Burial with military honors by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the funeral home where the Greencastle V.F.W. will hold a memorial service at 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Building Fund of the Marion United Methodist Church P.O. Box 382 Marion, Pa. 17235.
