Paul K. Shockey
Paul Kenneth Shockey, age 89 of 2684 St. Paul Rd. Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Greencastle, PA died at 10:05 A.M. Tuesday September 18, 2012 in the Quincy Retirement Home, Quincy, PA.
Born July 30, 1923 in Ringgold, MD, he was the son of the late Harry B. and Ruth (Davis) Shockey.
Paul began his career in the apprentice program of Landis Tool Co. Waynesboro. After working at the Tool Co., he was employed at Fairchild in Hagerstown and then went to work at Grove Mfg. of Shady Grove in January 1959 as the company''s first mechanical engineer. Then, on January 9, 1969 he and the late John L. Grove co-founded JLG Industries in McConnellsburg, PA where he worked until his retirement.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a tail gunner instructor. He was a 1941 graduate of Smithsburg High School and was a 1947 graduate of Duke University in mechanical engineering.
He served on the Board of Directors of JLG and was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle where he served on the church council. Paul was a member of the Friends of the Fulton County Library and a member of the McConnellsburg American Legion.
He and his wife, Anna E. (McDonald) Shockey were married February 28, 1946.
Surviving family in addition to his wife of 66 years are two sons Kenneth B. (wife Bonnie) Shockey, Greencastle, James N. Shockey, Ringgold, MD, two sisters, Jane (husband George) Martin, resident of Luther Ridge, Chambersburg, PA, Etta Gearhart, Lancaster, PA, three granddaughters, Nikki Metzler, Jodi Plum, Anni Rhule, five great grandsons and 1 great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Friday September 21 at 11:00 A.M. from the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 North Washington St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle on Thursday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. and at the church one hour before the service on Friday.
