Paul Eugene Mummert, age 93, of Martinsburg, WV, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Williamsport Retirement Village. Born in Waynesboro, PA on January 27, 1932, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Helen Peiffer Mummert.
Mr. Mummert was a 1949 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim Senior High School, he went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 in Frankfurt, Germany as an X-Ray technician. He earned his x-ray technician certification from Johns Hopkins Hospital. Mr. Mummert worked for 37 years at the Martinsburg VA Hospital, retiring in 1978. For ten years of his career he was a supervisory Radiological Technologist. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, where he was a Captain, a founding member of the Bedington Volunteer Fire Department, the Norwalk Car Club, VFW, and American Legion. Mr. Mummert enjoyed model trains, wood working, magic and flying as a private pilot. His love of magic led to working and performing in the “Evening of Comedy and Magic” since its inception, helping to raise funds for the prevention of child abuse. He was an active member of numerous local and international magic clubs and organizations, including the Magicians’ Alliance of Eastern States, which honored him with the Dr. William M. Endlich Memorial Award in 1992.
Mr. Mummert is survived by his wife of 69 years, Phillis V. Crim Mummert, whom he married in 1955; his son, Philip E. Mummert of Falling Waters, WV; two grandchildren, Nicholas E. Mummert (wife Cayla E. Amsley-Mummert) of Greencastle, PA and Stacy L. E. Mummert of Falling Waters, WV; and two great-grandchildren, Harrison E. and Helaina E. Mummert.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 11 AM in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastor Bowers will officiate. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 3 – 5 PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the above funeral home and address.
