Paul E. Garling

Paul E. Garling, age 85 of 49 Edward Dr. Greencastle, PA. died at 12:38 P.M. Monday August 15, 2011 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in failing health the past several years.

Born March 16, 1926 in Hagerstown, MD., he was the son of the late Roy B. and Margaret B. (Myers) Garling. Paul was employed by the Jamison Door Co. in Hagerstown for 31 years. Last, he was employed for 20 years by Franklin County attorneys as a paralegal and title abstractor.

Paul served in the Maryland State Guard in Co. B, 115th Infantry Maryland National Guard as a warrant officer. He was a member of the Kittochtinny Historical Society, the Brethren In Christ Historical Society and the American Numismatic Association. He attended Messiah College in Grantham, PA.

He and his wife Lucille (Davis) Garling were married October 22, 1949 in Hagerstown and had resided at their current address for 52 years.
He enjoyed history and authored the book "The Garling History" in 1953.

Surviving family in addition to his wife Lucille are several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Anna Mary Garling and a son Paul E. Garling II.

Funeral services will be held on Friday August 19 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Montgomery Brethren In Christ Church Cemetery near Welsh Run, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Friday. The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be given to the Antietam Humane Society 8513 Lyons Rd. Waynesboro, Pa. 17268 or to the charity of one''s choice.
