Paul L. Freeman, 85, of Greencastle, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Thornwald Home, Carlisle, PA. Born on May 15, 1937, in Summit Station, PA, he was the son of the late Harvey and Cora (Bressler) Freeman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Alberta Lutz, brothers Harvey and Ernest, and twin sister, Pauline Trumbo.
Paul was a 1955 graduate of Cressona High School, Cressona, PA. Upon graduation, he served in the Army as a SPC4 from October 1959 to January 1962 and was in the 15th Ordinance Company stationed in Germany. He was also a member of the Pine Grove National Guard. Upon discharge from the Army, Paul worked at Garden State Tanning in Fleetwood, PA and in 1977 transferred to W.D. Byron Tanning in Williamsport, MD. He retired as cutting room supervisor, after 47 years of service.
Paul enjoyed listening to country music and before moving to Greencastle, was a member of the “Blue Ridge Mountain Boys”, in which he played mandolin. He was a 53-year member of the Schuylkill Lodge No. 138 F&AM. After moving to Greencastle, Paul became a member of the Greencastle Lion Club and through the years worked on various committees, including White Cane day, pancake day, ice cream, broom and mint sales. He received Lion of the Year and the Melvin Jones award. Paul was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Greencastle. He was very devoted to his family and enjoyed attending the events his daughters and granddaughters were involved in. Paul also enjoyed working in his garden, playing games, and doing jigsaw and word puzzles.
Paul is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley E. (Trumbo), whom he married on April 20, 1963, daughters Peggy A. (Gary) Louder of Mercersburg, Christel S. (Dr. James) Kepner of Harrisburg, and granddaughters Megan and Kristen Louder. Paul is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Dr., Greencastle, PA on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour before the service. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA 17225. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1186 Jason Drive, Greencastle, PA 17225 or Thornwald Home, 442 Walnut Bottom Rd., Carlisle, PA 17013.
