Owen E. Elliott
Owen Ellis Elliott, age 89 of Greencastle, PA died at 2:21 PM Monday, July 20, 2015 in the Chambersburg Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past year.
Born November 13, 1925 in Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Ellis V. and J. Elizabeth (Greenawalt) Elliott. He married Frances L. “Fran” (Greenawalt) Elliott on December 29, 1945.
Owen retired in 1986 from Letterkenny Army Depot of Chambersburg where he worked in the Logistic Systems Support Agency. Prior to working at Letterkenny he was the Deputy Treasurer of Franklin County.
He was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle, member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 and Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle, member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Mount Pisgah Lodge No. 443, F. & A.M. of Greencastle.
Owen was a US Army Veteran of World War II having served from August 1944- June 1946 and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a 1944 graduate of Greencastle High School, attended Waynesboro Business College and completed accounting classes at Penn State.
Surviving family in addition to his wife of nearly 70 years are twin sons, Tim F. Elliott and wife Ginger of Chambersburg, Tony O. Elliott and wife Leesa of Shady Grove, PA, four grandchildren, Jennifer Elliott, Lindsay Salmon and husband Justin, Tim Elliott, Molly Elliott, one great-grandson Matthew Salmon, one sister, Betty Lee Fisher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Isabelle Mullenix and a brother Robert Elliott.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 28 at 2:00 PM from the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N. Washington St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Evangelical Lutheran Church 130 N. Washington St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
