Otto F. Beckner
Otto F. Beckner, age 97, formerly of Addison Ave. Greencastle, PA died at 12:50 AM Sunday, September 29, 2013 in the Shook Home of Chambersburg where he had been a resident for the past year.
Born March 11, 1916 in Middletown, Ohio, he was the son of the late Charles F. and Bertha (Gordon) Beckner. He and his wife Martha Lucille “Toby” (Snodderly) Beckner were married for over 70 years. She died on May 5, 2010.
Otto was a pilot for the former Henson Aviation of Hagerstown and worked as chief test pilot, flight instructor and in quality control for Fairchild Aircraft also of Hagerstown. He also worked at Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove in quality control, owned Globe Car Wash in Chambersburg and was owner of the Travelodge Motels in Chambersburg and York.
Otto was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle, the Q.B. Flying organization and the Mount Pisgah Masonic Lodge #443 F. & A.M. of Greencastle. He was a 1934 graduate of Greencastle High School.
Surviving family are one son Gordon L. Beckner of Chambersburg, two grandsons Derrick Beckner and wife Margaret, Tyler Beckner, one granddaughter Shea Beckner and one great-grandson Adam Beckner
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers C. Gordon Beckner and Russell Beckner.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 4 at 2:00 P.M from the Harold M. Zimmmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery Waynesboro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Friday.
