Orvetta Hege
Orvetta (Harnish) Hege, age 87, a resident of Quincy Retirement Home nearly four years and formerly of Charlestown Road Mercersburg, PA died at 5:30 AM Friday, April 11, 2014 in the nursing home.
Born February 18, 1927 near Cearfoss, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late John T. and Clara (Tolsten) Harnish. She married Ray C. Hege on March 28, 1947 in Mercersburg. He died on March 9, 2009.
She was a homemaker most of her life and in her earlier years she worked at the former Potter’s Restaurant of Greencastle and in the kitchen and snack bar of the Greencastle Livestock Auction.
Orvetta was a member of the Greencastle Church of the Brethren and was a member of the Berean Sunday School Class. She and her mother served as custodians of the church years ago.
She was a member of the Shining Light Youth Group of the Greencastle area. Orvetta was an exceptional artist and enjoyed doing embroidery.
Surviving family are two daughters Orvetta M. (wife of Ronald) Monn, Susan M. (Wife of Jay) Horst, all of Mercersburg, PA, one son William J. (husband of Maretta) Hege of Mercersburg, PA, two grandchildren, Pamela Naugle and Stephanie Rife, two great-grandsons, Nicholas Naugle and Tyler Naugle and one nephew Larry Harnish.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother Roy Harnish.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 11:00 AM from the Greencastle Church of the Brethren 36 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Leon Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the Welsh Run Church of the Brethren Cemetery near Welsh Run, PA. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 – 8 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Greencastle Church of the Brethren 36 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
