Olive (Burkett) Nisewonder

Olive (Burkett) Nisewonder, age 89 a resident of the Quincy Retirement Home and formerly of Grant Shook Rd. Greencastle died at 8:26 P.M. Saturday April 13, 2013 in the Waynesboro Hospital. She had been in declining health the past several months.

Born July 29, 1923 in Washington County, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Ray and Julia (Hicks) Burkett.
She married Floyd O. Nisewonder on July 29, 1951 in Hagerstown and they lived in Worleytown their entire lives before going to Quincy Retirement Home.

She was raised on a farm and had worked at the former GEM Garment Co. of Greencastle. She also enjoyed being a loving wife and homemaker, doing crafts and helping take care of those that were ill.

Olive was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church of Greencastle where she was a member and served for over 20 years as the secretary of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. She helped with Bible School, sang on the church choir, member of the prayer chain and helped with many other activities of the church. She attended the Sunrise School in Worleytown

Surviving family in addition to her husband Floyd are one sister Jeannette McMahel of Hagerstown, one aunt Fern Tritle, of Greencastle, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother Grover F. Burkett and a sister Evelyn Summers both formerly of Greencastle.


Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 18 at 11:00 A.M. from the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. and Chaplain Guy Baer officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service on Thursday.
