Olive M. (Miller) Homer, age 89 formerly of South Allison St., Greencastle and recently a resident of Quincy Home passed away at 10:15 P.M. on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in the Waynesboro Hospital. She had been in declining health since January.
Born, August 30, 1921 in Gardners, PA she was the daughter of the late Charles F. and Ida A. (Kinnamen) Miller.
She and her husband, Robert E. Homer were married in December 1941. He died on February 12, 1991.
She was employed as a Teachers Assistant at the Greencastle-Antrim School District retiring in 1992 after 20 years of service. She was a 1940 graduate of the Greencastle High School and attended the York Business School.
Olive was an avid gardener. She enjoyed spending time with her family; sewing and embroidery, especially making and donating items to the residents at Falling Spring Nursing Home and to Appalachian Missions Projects.
Surviving family are son, Gene L. Homer and wife Sue of Barberton, OH, daughter, Barbara L. Hopfer and husband Gregory of Alexandria, VA, son, Tony R. Homer and wife Deborah of Greencastle, PA, daughter, Elaine B. Wheeler and husband Kirby of Central Point, OR, daughter, Cindy Sanbury and husband Todd of Greencastle, PA; two brothers; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane M. Morris; ten brothers and sisters and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Pastor James E. Hughes officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends one hour before the service on Saturday.
