Myers D. Rockwell
Myers D. Rockwell, age 84 of Greencastle, PA died at 3:48 AM Saturday, January 24, 2015 in the Chambersburg Hospital following a brief illness.
Born December 8, 1930 in Cove Gap, PA, he was the son of the late James Myers and Pearl Annie (Douglas) Rockwell. He and his wife, Dolly A. (Angle) Rockwell were married June 4, 1953 in Lemasters, PA. She died on June 30, 2003.
Myers was a science teacher at the Greencastle-Antrim Middle School and had served as the building principal at the former South Antrim Elementary School. He retired from the school district in 1984. He was still working up until his death, along with his two sons, in operating the Rockwell Lumber Co. near Greencastle.
Mr. Rockwell was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and spending time with his family at Sipes Mill.
Myers was a 1949 graduate of the former Lemasters High School. He received his bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg State College and his master’s degree from Western Maryland College. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War.
Surviving family are two daughters Dremah Runshaw (David) of Shippensburg, Dena Wingerd (David) of Greencastle; two sons, Douglas Rockwell (Billie) and Dirk Rockwell (Carol), all of Greencastle; special friend, Marjorie (Peg) Strausner of Greencastle; eight grandchildren, Amy Pensinger, Holly Hockenberry, Chelsea Rockwell, Josh Statler, Tyler Wingerd, Michael Rockwell, Tucker Wingerd, Ashton Rockwell; seven great-grandchildren, Christian, Joey, Lars, Carter, Lee, Sammy, Olivia and one brother J. Elwood Rockwell of Mercersburg.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan Lawyer, Clara Doris Saunders Nalley and one brother Lee Rockwell.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 28 at 11:00 AM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Martin H. Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 PM.
