Miriam T. Rife, age 87 a resident of the Shook Home Chambersburg for four years and formerly of Greencastle and Lemasters died at 11:21 A.M. Saturday, May 10, 2008 in the Shook Home.

Born May 3, 1921 in Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late George Jacob and Mary Mae (Hull) Thompson.

An excellent cook, Miriam shared her talents at the New House Restaurant in Mercersburg in the 1960''s, later at New Parnell Restaurant near Fort Loudon and at the Oak Forest Restaurant in St. Thomas. She was particularly noted for her pie baking.

Cooking and baking were Miriam''s way of pampering her family and expressing her love and concern for others. A homemaker for many years, Miriam took pride in her flowers and garden and always put her family first.

Miriam was a member of the St. Paul''s United Church Of Christ and the former Trinity Lutheran Church, both of Lemasters.

She and her husband, Garnet K. Rife were married November 29, 1947. He died on May 25, 1990.

Surviving family are:

One son, Fred T. (Husband of Carolyn) Rife, Fayetteville, Pa.

Two daughters, Peggy J. (Wife of Stewart II) Dickson and Debra K. (Wife of Charles) Daugherty, both of Greencastle, Pa.

Sister, Dorothy Thompson, Greencastle, Pa.

Six grandchildren, Kelly and Christa Daugherty, Ricky Dickson, Jason and Trevor Rife, Tammy (Wife of Terry Wadel.

Seven great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by sisters Helen Williams, Nellie Angle, Kathryn Stouffer, infant sister Sarah Elizabeth Thompson and brothers Lloyd Thompson, William Thompson and John Thompson.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 14 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Shook Home 55 South Second St. Chambersburg, Pa. 17201, St. Paul''s United Church Of Christ P.O.
