Mildred J. (Hoch) Niswander

July 16, 1924 — October 7, 2017

Mildred J. (Hoch) Niswander, age 93, a resident of the Quincy Village Nursing Center and formerly of Greencastle died at 9:20 PM Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the nursing center.

Born July 16, 1924 in Mercersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Seth W. Hoch Sr. and Esther Rebeca (Kump) Hoch. She married her husband Howard M. Niswander on July 27, 1943. He died on January 17, 2001.

Mildred was employed for 30 years at the former Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown and then worked for 16 years at the former Citizens National Bank of Greencastle.

She was a faithful member for 83 years of the Mercersburg First United Methodist Church and served on various committees and positions in the church. Mildred was a member of the Greencastle Antrim Women’s Fellowship.

Mildred was a 1942 graduate of the former Mercersburg High School.

Mildred was the last of her immediate family and is survived by many nephews and nieces whom she loved and always took special interest in and one sister-in-law, Edna G. Picking, a resident of the Shook Home in Chambersburg.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was  preceded in death by five brothers, Edward L. Hoch Sr., Kenneth L. Hoch, Seth W. “Pete” Hoch Jr., John David Hoch, William Charles Hoch and three sisters, Edna Louise Jones,  Helen E. Hoch and Peggy Ann Hoch, who died on March 15, 2016
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 12 at 10:00 AM at the Mercersburg First United Methodist Church 11 N. Fayette St. Mercersburg, PA with Rev. Michael Baughman   officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery Mercersburg. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 -8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to United Methodist Women of the Mercersburg First United Methodist Church 11 N. Fayette St. Mercersburg, PA 17236.
