Merle "Gene" E. Johns

Merle E. “Gene” Johns, age 76, of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Friday, December 31, 2021, at the Chambersburg Hospital. Born December 28, 1945, he was the son of the late Norman D. and Julia E. Harmon Johns.

Gene attended James Buchanan High School. He went on to pursue a career as a mechanic, working at the former Monn’s Garage in Lemasters for a number of years and then at Antrim Diesel For a number of years, prior to his retirement. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, wrestling, and going to Dirt Tracks.

Gene is survived by four siblings, Jacob Johns of Greencastle, PA, Harold Johns of St. Thomas, PA, Nellie Stoner of St. Thomas, PA, and Leslie Johns of Ft. Littleton, PA and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, of 15 years, Doris Johns, whom he married on June 5, 1999, and four siblings, Ralph and Roy Harmon, Helen Hege, and Robert Johns.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 1:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA, Where Pastor Floyd Myers will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 7 – 9 PM and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will follow in Parklawns Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Make-A-Wish America 1702 East Highland Ave., Suite 400 Phoenix, AZ 85016.
