Max Franklin Hykes, age 54 of Chambersburg, PA and formerly of Greencastle died unexpectedly in his residence on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.
Born December 2, 1961 in Waynesboro, PA he was the son of Franklin M. “Peep” Hykes and Joyce A. (Snowberger) Hykes of Angle Road Chambersburg.
Max had worked at the former Corning Glass Works of Greencastle in the Quality Control Dept., he also worked at Henry’s Floor Covering of Greencastle and he had various other jobs over the years.
In his earlier years he attended the Greencastle Church of the Brethren. Max was well known as a self-employed guitarist and musician having played in several bands over the years. In his younger years he was a member of Boy Scout Troop #13 and was an avid lover of animals.
Max graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School Class of 1979 and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree from Shepherd University in Business Administration and Communications in 1983.
Surviving family in addition to his mother and father are one sister Francine Hykes Phillips of Shepherdstown, WV and several cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Max’s life will be held on Sunday, December 4 at 3:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor Chris Renner officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Sunday. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. Memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Antietam Humane Society 8513 Lyons Rd.
