Maurice L. "Mac" McCarney, age 88 of Gearhart Rd. Greencastle, PA and a resident of Quincy Retirement Home for the last two years died at 11:40 A.M. Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in the nursing home.

Born July 30, 1923 in Mont Alto, PA, he was the son of the late Norman George and Lillian Mae (Watt) McCarney. Mac married M. LaFerren (Crist) McCarney in August 1951.
In his earlier years he was manager of the Penn Dairies Ice Cream Store in Waynesboro, he worked for the former Paul Bowders Meat Market, Bordens Ice Cream Co. and last was a supervisor at Grove Mfg. in Shady Grove. Following retirement, he worked as a greeter at Walmart.
He was a former member of the Owls Club of Waynesboro and the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373 of Greencastle. Mac was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church of Greencastle and was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving family in addition to his wife of 60 years are one daughter Cindy Leckron and husband Keith of Greencastle, granddaughter Niki Leckron Kauffman and husband Rob of Chambersburg, great-granddaughter Abby Kauffman, great-grandsons, Will, Andrew and Caleb Kauffman, a niece whom he helped raise, Kathy Diller and husband Gary of Chambersburg, great nephew Gary Diller and wife Nikki and their sons Ray, Will, Noah of Fayetteville, great nephew Duane Diller and wife Leah and their sons Dakota and Drake of Shippensburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Herbert and George McCarney, three sisters Rozelle McCarney Rock, Mae McCarney Nunemaker, Joy McCarney Neal and a granddaughter Melissa Leckron who died in 1995.

A memorial service will be held on Monday April 30 at 10:00 A.M. from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Rev. David G. Rawley officiating. Interment will follow the service in Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. There will be a visitation at Otterbein United Brethren Church on Sunday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Building Fund of the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
