Maurice "June" Lowans Jr., age 84 of 3140 Hill Rd. Greencastle, Pa. died at 1:46 P.M. Friday December 12, 2008 in his home.
Born June 28, 1924 in Mercersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Maurice R. and Annie K. (Kuhn) Lowans.
He retired from the Charles E. Brake Excavating Co. of St Thomas where he worked as a blaster and truck driver.
Mr. Lowans was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose of Chambersburg, member of the Clarence Armstrong V.FW. Post # 6241 and a member of the American Legion, both of Mercersburg.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in a tank battalion in the European Theatre.
He enjoyed being outdoors, bird watching and fishing.
He and his wife, Mary K. (Barnhart) Lowans were married May 5, 1947.

Eight daughters, Arlene Gordon, Hagerstown, Md., Darlene Foust, Chambersburg,, Donna Wertz, Bedford, Pa., Trudy Lowans, Chambersburg, Teresa Hockenberry, Ft. Loudon, Pa., Kathy Chilcote and Dawn King, both of Mercersburg and Anita Sheffield of Greencastle.
Four sons, Gary Barnhart of Harrisonville, Pa., Donald Lowans of Ft. Loudon, Pa., Raymond Lowans, Mercersburg and Tim Lowans of Greencastle.
Four Sisters - Betty Johns, Chambersburg., Glenna Evans , Schuylkill Haven, Pa., Patsy DuBois, Florida and Shirley Shatzer, Greencastle.
One brother - Marcus N. Lowans, Waynesboro, Pa.
Twenty-nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by one brother Raymond R. Lowans.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 17 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Raymond Martin officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening form 6 - 8 P.M.
