Matilda "Tillie" Boker Sloan Wine, age 83, of Greencastle, PA, died at 11:15 P.M. Tuesday, June 23, 2009 in the Waynesboro Hospital.
Born November 18, 1925 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Honorable Walter R. and Mabel (Trout) Sloan.
She and her husband, John A. Wine were married January 29, 1946 in Westminster, MD.
She was an amazing lady and was a loving mother and wife. She graduated in 1943 from the McConnellsburg High School and attended Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA and Western Maryland College in Westminster, MD.
Mrs. Wine was a member of the Greencastle Presbyterian Church where she was past chairwoman of the flower committee. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and a direct descendent of John Morton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
She was a life member of the Waynesboro Hospital Auxiliary and the Fulton County Historical Society. She was a member of the Allison-Antrim Museum, Loyal Daughters, and the Tuesday Bridge Club all of Greencastle. She was a member of the Wilson College Alumni Association. In her earlier years was active with Brownies and Girl Scouts.
Surviving family in addition to her husband of 63 years are, one daughter, Josephine W. (wife of Raymond A.) Spitz of Surfside Beach, SC; one son, J. Edgar (husband of Deborah C.) Wine of Greencastle, PA; four grandchildren, William A. Spitz, Susan E. Spitz, Kathryn C. Wine, Elizabeth A. Wine and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas F. Sloan.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the Greencastle Presbyterian Church, 57 West Baltimore St., Greencastle with Pastor Taylor Camerer officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 to 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Greencastle Presbyterian Church Organ Fund, 57 West Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the charity of ones choice.
