Mary Evelyn (Angle) Schenck, age 104 a resident of the Penn Hall Nursing Center Chambersburg and formerly a long time resident of 5671 Buchanan Trail West Mercersburg died at 5:10 P.M. Thursday September 23, 2010 in the nursing center.

Born September 16, 1906 on the Angle homestead in Montgomery Twp. Franklin County, PA., she was the daughter of the late George Frederick and Nora Emma (Angle) Angle.

She was an elementary school teacher having started teaching at the age of 18 and taught 31 1/2 years in Fulton and Franklin Counties. She retired on July 1, 1972.

Mary Evelyn was a 1925 graduate of Greencastle High School, 1927 graduate of the Cumberland Valley Normal School of Shippensburg and received her BS degree in elementary education in 1959 from Shippensburg State Teachers College.
She married John Gervaise Schenck on August 31, 1929. He died on December 26, 1944.

She was a member of the St. Stephen Lutheran Church near Upton. Her lifelong interests included crocheting, knitting, making braided rugs and gardening.

Surviving family are one daughter Mary Emma S. Gingrich, Penn Hall, Chambersburg, one son Fred C. Schenck, Greencastle, five grandchildren Lisa Dee Gingrich Welsh, Gregory N. Schenck, Ninda D. Schenck Hastings, Nichole A. Schenck Mohn, Nanette D. Schenck, six great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, two sisters Mildred C. Bernhardt, Oak Ridge, TN., and Betty Jane Lehman, Greencastle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson William Kirk Gingrich in 1992, and two sisters Mabel Mayhugh Phillippy and Pauline Brewer.

Funeral services will be held Monday September 27 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Chaplain Robert Keener officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends one hour before the service on Monday. Memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Lutheran Home Care And Hospice 2700 Luther Dr. Chambersburg, Pa. 17201. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com
