Mary Doris (Dunegan) Riordan, age 82 and a resident of the Shook Home of Chambersburg and formerly of Town Dr. Greencastle died Friday afternoon January 22, 2016 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born November 20, 1933 in Patton, PA she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Florene (Riner) Dunegan. She married her husband William E. "Bill" Riordan on July 2, 1955. He died on July 26, 2012.
Doris was a retired registered nurse, having worked last at TB Wood’s Inc. in Chambersburg. She was a 1951 graduate of Patton High School and graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. Doris was a member of the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church of Greencastle. In her younger years she was a member of a local Ladies Bowling League.
Surviving family are one son, Barry Riordan and wife Lu Ann of Chambersburg, one daughter Paula Mittel and husband Michael of Hagerstown, four grandchildren Cory Riordan, Stephanie Riordan Stumbaugh and husband Ryan, Molly Mittel, Caleb Mittel, two great-grandchildren Henry and Walter, one sister Camilla Bertsche and husband William of Mystic, CT, one brother Dr. Gerald Dunegan and wife Jean of Louisville, KY and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother Bernard Dunegan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 30 at 10:00 AM from the St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 395 S. Ridge Ave. Greencastle with Rev. Joseph C. Carolin officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Rescue Hose Co. #1 842 South Washington St. Greencastle, PA 17225.
