Mary H. (Heckman) Martz, age 91 of Menno Haven Chambersburg and formerly of Greencastle died at 6:45 PM Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in Menno Haven

Born March 2, 1923 in Fayetteville, PA, she was the daughter of the late John G. and Sarah (Burns) Heckman. She married James R. Martz on February 2, 1942. He died on July 31, 1997. Mary was a retired school teacher in the Greencastle-Antrim School District having taught fifth and sixth grade. She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ Greencastle where she sang on the choir and was a member of the women’s guild. Mary was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and Shippensburg State College.

She enjoyed dogs, playing bridge, knitting, sewing, cooking, traveling and camping.

Surviving family are one daughter Sally Walker and husband Sam of Salisbury, MD, one granddaughter Suzanne Lee and husband Troy of Centreville, MD. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a son William Martz in 2009.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 18 at 11:30 AM from the Cedar Hill Cemetery Buchanan Trail West Greencastle with Chaplain Alan Echard officiating. There will be no visitation.  In leiu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter 5051 Letterkenny Rd.
