Mary Ellen Lewis, age 91 a resident of Homewood at Williamsport and formerly of South Pointe Hagerstown, MD died at 4:07 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2014 in the nursing center at Homewood.
Born November 13, 1923 in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Spirdie Walter and Blanche (Gearhart) Starliper. Her husband George E. Lewis died in September 1993.
Mary Ellen was a fashion merchandiser for a former women’s clothing store in Hagerstown and in her younger years she worked as a PBX operator at the former Hotel Alexander.
She was a life member of the Williamsport Red Men Tribe No. 84 and had attended the Ebenezer “Guitners” United Brethren Church near Greencastle. Mary Ellen enjoyed boating, flying, traveling, watching baseball and golf.
Surviving family are one sister Helen Gontz of Chambersburg; two step-daughters, Carole Trumpower of Hagerstown, Arlene D’Anna of Florida; numerous nieces and nephews, special friend Freddie Tallarico of Laurel, MD, special caregivers and friends, Sandie Williard of Hagerstown and Sherri Rash of Waynesboro, PA.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family at Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman, PA with Pastor David Grove officiating. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M.
