Mary Irene Burnett, age 95 a resident of The Village of Laurel Run Fayetteville, PA and formerly of Waynesboro, PA died at 7:00 P.M. Saturday, April 28, 2012 in the nursing home.
Irene was born on January 12, 1917 in Louisville, KY and was the oldest daughter of the late Edward and Gertrude (Hall) Messmer.
She attended St.Paul''s School in Lexington where she met a horseman from Texas whom she would marry. Irene married Joe F. Burnett on December 23, 1936. He died on November 17, 1999.
Along with her late husband and son, she worked for over 25 years in the packing house of Five Forks Fruit operated by the Showalter family. Irene spent her retirement years crocheting, quilting and taking care of her son Jerry.
Surviving family are one son Jerry Burnett, resident of The Village of Laurel Run, one sister Jessie M. George, nieces Rosemary Houp, Mary Osborne, Theresa Evans and nephews Buddy and George Wade. She was also preceded in death by siblings Ethel Wade, Evelyn Newton and Gene Messmer.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family on Thursday May 3 in the Chapel of Blue Grass Memorial Gardens in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Local arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle. Condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.
