Martha G. Martin

February 14, 1910 — November 13, 2016

Martha Grace  (Showalter) Martin, age 106 passed away on Sunday morning November 13, 2016 at Menno Haven in Chambersburg.

Born February 14, 1910 in Reid, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late Alvah and Katie (Shank) Showalter. Her husband, Rev. Adam R. Martin died February 7, 1997.

Martha lived most of her life in Maugansville, MD and was a member of Mt. Zion Mennonite Church of Boonsboro. Most recently she lived at Menno Haven Retirement Community in Chambersburg.

She enjoyed sewing and knitting and volunteered many hours at the Cumberland Valley Relief Center making comforters for the Mennonite Central Committee to give to people in need.

She is survived by a daughter Betty Horst and husband Lauren of Greencastle, two sons, Arlin Martin and wife Mary Lou of Greencastle, Leo Martin and wife Mary of Hagerstown, son-in-law James Hertzler, 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 28 great- great-grandchildren.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings and their spouses; Esther and George Keener, Cora and Clifford Oberholzer, Dorothy And Edgar Keener, Roy and Leona Showalter and one daughter Alta Hertzler.

Funeral services will be held on Friday November 18 at 10:30 AM at the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church 20544 Benevola Church Rd. Boonsboro MD. with Rev. Roger Martin and Chaplain Vernon Isner officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 9:00 – 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Cumberland Valley Relief Center 4225 Molly Pitcher Hwy. Chambersburg, PA 17202. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.  Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
