Martha Elizabeth (Deeter) Brown, 92, of Providence Place Chambersburg and formerly of Greencastle, PA died Friday morning January 25, 2013 at Providence Place. She was the wife of the late Bruce B. Brown, her husband of 55 years who died January 14, 2002.
Born Christmas day, Dec. 25, 1920 in Goodtown, Somerset County, PA., she was the fourth of 14 children of the late Milton Henry and Martha Elizabeth (Saylor) Deeter. She was raised from the age of 8 by her paternal uncle, Simon Elmer Deeter and his wife, Mabel (Reininger) Deeter in Moxham, PA.
She graduated Johnstown High School, Johnstown, PA, in 1939; and was a 1943 graduate of Hood College, Frederick, MD, with a BS in Home Economics and Chemistry.
Mrs. Brown was a chemist in the explosives laboratory for the E. I. DuPont Company at Gibbstown, New Jersey and Fort Lewis, Washington State during WW II.
She was a also a homemaker and accomplished seamstress.
She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Williamsport, MD; and the Forbes Road Pennsylvania Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
Surviving are 2 sons, Timothy C. Brown, Newcastle, DE, Samuel K. Brown Greencastle, PA, a daughter, Gretchen G. Bodrogi, Finksburg, MD, 4 Grandchildren Tamara J. Brown, Los Angeles, CA, Cameron T. Brown, Irwin, PA, Daniel Z. Bodrogi, Springfield, VA and Marjorie C. Bodrogi, Finksburg, MD, 1 Great Grandchild Rowan Brown, Irwin, PA, a brother, Robert Deeter, Greensboro, NC and a sister Ruth Martin, St. Clairsville, PA.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Gordon Bruce Brown; as well as 11 brothers and sisters; Curtis Deeter, Infant, Elnora Snyder, Shanksville, PA, Earl Deeter, MacDonaldton, PA, John Oliver Deeter, Sharon, PA, George Wilson Deeter, Somerset, PA, Ethel May Kopaka, New Staunton, PA., Milton Henry Deeter, Jr., Meyersdale, PA, Lois Jones, Red Lion, PA, James Deeter, Somerset, PA, Helen Faye St. Clair, Somerset, PA and Charles R. Deeter, Brotherton, PA.
The Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home of Greencastle is handling her arrangements. At her request, there will be no visitation or services at the funeral home.
