Martha B. (Bowders) High, age 90 of Tick Ridge Rd. Waynesboro, PA died at 2:55 PM Thursday January 12, 2017 in the Quincy Village Nursing Home where she had resided since October 2016. She had been in declining health since entering the nursing home.
Born June 3, 1926 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, PA, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Carrie (Bowman) Bowders. Her husband C. Richard “Dick” High died October 31, 1993.
Martha had been employed as the head baker for the Waynesboro School District. She also performed house cleaning services for local families and in her younger years worked at Landis Machine Co. She last attended the Hollowell Brethren In Christ Church of Waynesboro where was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the sewing circle.
Martha was a graduate of the former Washington Twp. High School. She was a member of the National AARP and enjoyed crocheting.
Surviving family are one daughter Linda L. Keller and husband John of Waynesboro, one son Alan R. High and wife Teresa M. of Chambersburg, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Jane Monn on Oct. 19, 2005, one grandson Aaron Setting, one brother Daniel Bowders and a sister Nell Sunday.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 17 at 2:00 PM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Pastor James Sollenberger and William E. Shilling officiating. Burial will be in the Beautiful View Cemetery in State Line. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care and Hospice 2700 Luther Dr. Chambersburg, PA 17202.
