Marcus N. "Mark" Lowans, age 82 of 31 South Grant St. Waynesboro, Pa. died at 4:15 P.M. Sunday, May 23, 2010 in his home.
Born April 28, 1928 in Mercersburg, Pa. he was the son of the late Maurice R. and Annie K. (Kuhn) Lowans.
Mark worked for Grove Worldwide, State Of Penna., Borough Of Greencastle and last at Nitterhouse Concrete having retired in1989.
He was life member of the Rescue Hose Co. #1 of Greencastle and a member of the Greencastle American Legion. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He enjoyed NASCAR races, camping, listening to George Jones Country Music, talking on the C.B. radio and sitting on his front porch at his home.
He and his wife, Mary Catherine "Betty" (Kelbaugh) Lowans were married December 25, 1949 in Hagerstown.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are five sons, Gerald "Jed" Lowans, Millard "Buddy" Lowans, Darrell "Lenny" Lowans, Rodney "Bill" Lowans, all of Waynesboro, Todd Lowans, San Diego, California, two daughters, Betty Laman, Chambersburg, Lori Kline, Waynesboro, five sisters, Betty Jane Johns, Chambersburg, Glenna Evans, Schuylkill Haven, Pa., Patsy DuBois, Florida, Shirley Shatzer, Greencastle, Joyce Black, Illinois, 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son Ronald Lowans, daughter Vicki Stull, brothers Raymond Lowans and Maurice "June" Lowans Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 27 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle with Rev. Daryl Lehman officiating. Burial will be in the Green Hill Cemetery Waynesboro. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M.
