Mahlon D. Eshleman

Mahlon D. Eshleman, age 89,  a resident of Menno Haven of Chambersburg and formerly of Warm Spring Rd. Chambersburg died at 4:15 AM Saturday, October 31, 2015 in the Menno Haven Nursing Center.

Born April 19, 1926 in Washingt6on County, Maryland, he was the son of the late Ralph and Ruth (Martin) Eshleman. He married Mary Celestine (Horst) Eshleman on June 20, 1948. She died on September 2, 2007.

Mahlon was a bi-vocational Mennonite pastor having served as pastor at the Williamson / Mercersburg Mennonite Church and he also served as Bishop of the Franklin County Mennonite Conference.  One of his first jobs was driving an ELM Store on wheels.  Then he worked as a meat cutter and his last employment was in custodial services at Menno Haven.

He was a member of the Mercersburg Mennonite Church. He was described as a compassionate, kind and gentle man. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed doing latch hooking in which he had donated some of his latch hooking creations to the Cove Valley Camp.  Mahlon was a passionate father and grandfather and very much enjoyed his family.

Surviving family are two sons, Allen Roger and his wife Mary Ellen (Horst) Eshleman of Mercersburg, Ronald Jaye husband of Sharon (Helfrick) Eshleman of St. Thomas, PA, five grandchildren, Ryan Eshleman and wife Jill, Rusty Eshleman and wife Renae, Rachel Knoll and husband Nathaniel, Joshua Eshleman, Sarah Eshleman, six great-grandchildren, two brothers Ralph Eshleman Jr. of Hagerstown and Nathan Eshleman of Chambersburg.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother Omer Eshleman.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday November 4 at 10:30 AM at the Mercersburg Mennonite Church, 10060 Buchanan Trail West Mercersburg with Pastor David Possinger officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the Marion Mennonite Church Cemetery with the Rev. Merle Cordell officiating. A viewing will be held at the Mercersburg Mennonite Church on Tuesday from 2:00 – 4:00 PM and 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Benevolent Care Fund of Menno Haven 2011 Scotland Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201 or to the Mercersburg Mennonite Church 10060 Buchanan Trail West Mercersburg, PA 17236.
