Mabel R. Shuman Beckwith, age 89 of East Madison St. Greencastle, PA died at 2:45 P.M. Tuesday February 12, 2013 in the Waynesboro Hospital.

Born January 25, 1924 in Chambersburg, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Roy and Olive (Rotz) Snider.
In her earlier years she served her country by working at Letterkenny Army Depot during World War II and then she worked at the former Holstein''s Variety Store in Greencastle. She was last employed at Grove Worldwide in Shady Grove.

Mabel was preceded in death by her first husband Howard I. Shuman in 1978 and also by her second husband Richard Beckwith. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Marion.
Mabel grew up in Chambersburg where she lived on the Snider farm. She loved to ice skate on the farm pond in the winter and spent her summer doing farm chores and swimming at Etter''s meadow. She was a graduate of Chambersburg High School.

She was a gracious, generous and humble woman who gained more pleasure in the happiness of others than herself and was second only to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with their virtues being her grand legacy.

Surviving family are two daughters Donna Shuman Myers (husband Leroy), Hershey, PA, Sandra Shuman Parks DiDio (husband Donald), Greencastle, one brother Roy Snider, Chambersburg, two sisters, Phyllis Knoll, Shirley Brechbiel, both of Chambersburg, five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one step-son Richard Beckwith Jr., Hagerstown.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she also was preceded in death by a son Samuel Howard Shuman and a brother David Snider.

Funeral services will be held on Monday February 18 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. Denise Horn officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the American Cancer Society 385 Floral Ave. Chambersburg, PA 17201.
