Mary Lois (Akers) McGeary, age 86 of 11443 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle, Pa. died at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 21, 2010 in her home.
Born March 15, 1924 in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Elizabeth (Kegarise) Akers.
She was a 1941 graduate of Southern Fulton High School in Warfordsburg, Pa.
She was a homemaker and had worked at Sunnyway Diner of Greencastle and also did Home Care Nursing. She retired in 1989 from D.L.J. Cont. at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg.
Lois was a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 Ladies Auxiliary of Greencastle. She enjoyed cooking, baking, doing crossword puzzles and being with her family.
She and her husband, Chalmers B. "Sam" McGeary were married April 3, 1948. He died on September 20, 1996.
Surviving family are one son Ronald (Carol) Akers, Greencastle, four daughters, Kathaleen (Paul) Sprankle, Fayetteville, Gloria (Ed) Johnson, Gladys (Randy) Hager and Pamela (Marvin) Flagle, all of Greencastle, four brothers Robert Akers, Breezewood, Pa., Charles Akers Jr., Chrystal Springs, Pa., Stanley Akers, Saratoga Springs, N.Y., James Akers, Chewsville, Md., ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a step-son Robert McGeary, great granddaughter Kyra Stoner,brother Allen Akers Sr. and a nephew Gregory Akers.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday August 26 at 11:00 A.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given in her memory to the American Cancer Society Franklin-Fulton Unit 384 Floral Ave. Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.
