Lynn R. Bear

Lynn R. Bear, age 95 of 5375 Buchanan Trail West Greencastle, Pa. died at 4:20 P.M. Thursday March 19, 2009 in the Chambersburg Hospital.

Born January 22, 1914 in Upton, Pa., he was the son of the late Franklin Harvey and Elizabeth Susan (Hoover) Bear. He had lived at his present home his entire life.

Mr. Bear was a member of the St. Stephens Lutheran Church of Upton since 1925 where he mowed lawns, served as treasurer and building fund treasurer for many years. He worked at the Upton Festivals and served as treasurer of the Upton Community Improvement Association for over 20 years.

He was a farmer and orchard worker during his youth. He later worked as a machinist and machine repairman at Landis Tool Company of Waynesboro. He retired in 1986 after 20 years of employment as a machinist and shipper at Anvil Products of Greencastle.

Mr. Bear enjoyed reading and putting puzzles together. As a hobby he was a water dowser where he located the drilling locations of wells for individuals and businesses. He could recite details and experiences in locating 737 wells in his lifetime. While his health permitted he and his wife traveled extensively in the United States and Canada. He enjoyed reminiscing about his travels down to the details of where and what they ate at each stop.

He and his wife, Mary L. (Lesher) Bear were married in May 1936. She died January 22, 1992.

He was the last of his immediate family.

Surviving family are three nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by brothers Charles E. Bear and Roy M. Bear.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle with Rev. Alan R. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 6 to 8 P.M.
