Lydia S. Gearhart
Lydia Catherine (Sites) Gearhart, age 93 a resident of Providence Place of Chambersburg and formerly of Valley Camp Rd. St. Thomas, PA died Saturday evening December 15, 2012 at Providence Place.
Born September 20, 1919 in Greencastle, PA, she was the daughter of the late Cyrus Leslie and Cora Etta (Seiders) Sites.
She and her husband Earl M. Gearhart were married April 5, 1942. He died on October 26, 2006.
She worked for 28 � years at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg and also for the Franklin County Board of Assistance for 10 years.
Mrs. Gearhart was a lifetime member of the Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church of Greencastle where she was a former member of the adult Sunday School, served as Sunday School secretary and teacher and served in the Women''s Missionary Association.
Lydia was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter #1063 and the Red Hat Club at Providence Place.
She was a 1937 graduate of Greencastle High School. Lydia enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, playing the organ and reading.
Surviving family are two sons Monte W. Gearhart of St. Thomas, PA, Ricky E. Gearhart (wife Cheryl) of Clearbrook, VA, one sister Pearl Myers (husband Donald C.) of Greencastle, three grandchildren Matthew Gearhart, Erin Gearhart , Breeanne Gearhart-Woods, five great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 20 at 10:00 A.M. from the Ebenezer "Guitners" United Brethren Church 661 Williamson Rd. Greencastle, PA with Rev. David Grove and Chaplain John Rauch officiating. Burial will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 - 8 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 South Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in her memory to the Ebenezer United Brethren Church 661 Williamson Rd. Greencastle, PA 17225.
