Lillian Kathleen Wingert
Lillian Kathleen Wingert, age 87, passed away on Monday, June 18th, 2012. Born February 22, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Charlotte Morphet of Stayner, Ontario, Canada. Her husband of 58 years, Laban M. Wingert, preceded her in passing on August 3rd, 2010.
She is survived by their children - Vern (Carol) Wingert of Gilbert AZ, Beth Wingert of Chambersburg, PA and Greg (Blanca) Wingert of Mesa, AZ, grandchildren Ashley Wingert of Gilbert, AZ, Michael Wingert of Mesa, AZ and Joshua Wingert of Mesa, AZ. Her daughter, Cheryl Wingert, passed away from terminal illness at the young age of 25.
The second of four children, Lillian was raised in the rural farming area of northern Ontario, Canada. Lillian later attended Messiah College where she met her future husband, Laban Wingert, of Chambersburg. Bishop E. J. Swalm of the Brethren In Christ Church officiated at their 1952 wedding in Stayner, Canada.
Together, Laban and Lillian raised four children at their Duffield home. When not cooking up a delicious home-made meal or attending to one of the children, Lillian spent time in her beautiful flower gardens and enjoyed the company of Purple Martins as they returned each spring.
Over the course of twenty plus years, Lillian spent time each Wednesday afternoon listening to children recite Bible scripture as part of the Children''s Release Time program at Duffield Elementary School.
In retirement, Lillian and Laban made numerous cross-country trips to spend time with the children and grandchildren.
