Lewis M. Horst, age 82 of 14222 Paradise Church Rd. Hagerstown, Md. died at 9:15 A.M. Friday, December 12, 2008 in the Washington County Hospital from head injuries he received in a fall at his home on December 8.
Born September 10, 1926 near Maugansville, Md., he was the son of the late Jacob E. and Cora E. (Martin) Horst. Before his retirement he was a farmer.
He was a member of the Paradise Mennonite Church near Hagerstown.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi (Weber) Horst, whom he married on November 12, 1947; two daughters, Ruth A. Hege of Washington Court House, Ohio and Mary Ella Horst, at home; six sons, Merlin R. Horst of Waynesboro, Pa., Wayne L. Horst, Mark D. Horst, Harold L. Horst and Jacob E. Horst all of Hagerstown and James R. Horst of Big Pool, Md.; two sisters, Ellen M. Eshleman and Aletha M. Eshleman, both of Hagerstown; 54 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, John L. Horst ; two sisters, Mary M. Diller and Lois M. Martin; and one brother Preston M. Horst.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:00 A.M. from the Millers Mennonite Church near Leitersburg with the Paradise Mennonite Church Ministry officiating. Burial will be in the Millers Mennonite Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:30 - 3:30 P.M. and 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Paradise Mennonite Church and one hour before the service on Monday at Millers Mennonite Church. The family requests that flowers be omitted. Arrangements are by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
