Lester L. Helfrick, age 78 of 366 West Baltimore St. Greencastle, Pa. died at 12:33 A.M. Thursday June 4, 2009 in the Waynesboro Hospital. He had been in declining health for the past six months.
Born October 11, 1930 in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles Emmanuel and Annie Rebecca (Myers) Helfrick.
He had worked in the grinding dept. of Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro for 33 years having retired in 1996.
Mr. Helfrick was a member of the Macedonia United Brethren Church near Greencastle. He was a 1949 graduate of Greencastle High School.
He and his wife, Naomi E. (Shaffer) Helfrick were married on May 20, 1950. He enjoyed watching sports especially baseball and basketball.
Surviving family in addition to his wife of 59 years are; four daughters, Beverly Ann Helfrick and Kathy Elaine Helfrick Barnhart, both of Greencastle, Rebecca Jean Helfrick Zimmerman and Patty Marie Helfrick Summers, both of Mercersburg, two sons, Jeffrey Lynn Helfrick, Waynesboro and Gary Lee Helfrick, Greencastle, four brothers, Isaac Helfrick, Grantham, Pa., Samuel Helfrick, Waynesboro, Robert Helfrick and John Helfrick both of Greencastle, one sister, Bertha Lehman, Pennsylvania, six grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son Ronald Eugene Helfrick in 1955, sisters Anna Stepler, Martha Shives and brothers Joseph Helfrick, Carroll Helfrick, Ralph Helfrick and Asa Helfrick.
Funeral services will be held on Monday June 8 at 2:00 P.M. from the Macedonia United Brethren Church 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle with Rev. Gayle L. Ruble Sr. officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 - 9 P.M. at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Macedonia United Brethren Church Building Fund 11887 Worleytown Rd. Greencastle, Pa. 17225.
