Leslie Monroe Sellers, age 92, of 1093 Milnor Road, Greencastle, PA, was promoted to his heavenly home early Monday morning, January 2, 2012, after a brief illness at the V-A Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Born on May 9, 1919, at Kauffman Station, near Greencastle, PA, he was the son of the late Monroe George and Anna Catherine (Whitmore) Sellers.

He was always interested in aviation and took flight lessons from Dick Henson at Municipal Airport at age 15. After graduating from Greencastle-Antrim High School in 1937, he spent a year in the Army Air Corps at Langley Field (1937-1938). Afterward, he entered Aero Industrial Technical Institute in Glendale, California, graduating in 1939 as an Aircraft Master Mechanic. He worked at Vultee Aircraft in Downey, California, until 1941. He applied for Air Force Cadet Training. Meanwhile, he returned to Hagerstown and worked at Fairchild Aircraft Corporation. He entered the United States Army Air Force in 1943 and received his wings and 2nd Lieutenant commission in 1944. Leslie was co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator Bomber in the United States Army Air Force during World War II. His plane was hit on September 11, 1944, during a mission to Magdeburg, Germany, and that eventually led to his "Missing in Action" status. He was liberated on April 9, 1945, and returned from overseas on V-E day, May 8, 1945. He arrived home on his birthday, May 9. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.

After becoming a civilian, he worked at Fairchild Industries for several years. He also worked as an electrician and car salesman in the local area. He retired from Grove Manufacturing Company, in Shady Grove, PA, in 1981.

He was a former member of the Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church for 18 years, then a member of Cutting Edge Ministries where he was a member of the Adult Bible Class and an elder. He was a charter member of the Hagerstown Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen''s Fellowship, serving in several offices. He served as a volunteer at Mount Hope Prison Ministry, Hagerstown, MD, for 23 years and a volunteer at Western Maryland Hospital for several years. He served as an advisor for the Hagerstown Chapter of Women''s Aglow Fellowship for 10 years. He was also a member of Morris Frock, Post 42, American Legion and a member of the local AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Billie Jeanne Sellers; one daughter, Cynthia Jeanne Miller, and her husband, William Jonathan Miller, both of Greencastle, PA; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Miller, of Herndon, VA; and one nephew, William Neal of Williamantic, CT. He was preceded in death by one sister, Miriam Catherine Neal; and one grandson, Jonathan ("Jon") Andrew Miller.

There will be no viewing; however, a visitation will be held at the Harold M. Zimmerman & Son Funeral Home, 45 South Carlisle Street, Greencastle, PA, on Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 6-8 PM. There will be a private burial service in Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hollowell Brethren in Christ Church, 14807 Hollowell Church Road, Waynesboro, PA, on Friday, January 6, 2012, at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Brett D.
