Leroy D. Bowman
Leroy Daniel Bowman, age 78 of Shippensburg, PA and formerly of Greencastle died Thursday afternoon July 19, 2018 in the Chambersburg Hospital.
Born April 19, 1940 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Benjamin F. and Julia May (Clugston) Bowman. He married his wife Judith “Judy” A. (Seal) Bowman on November 20, 1964.
Leroy was employed at Mack Trucks of Hagerstown as a machinist retiring in 1999. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Leroy was a member of the Otterbein United Brethren Church in Greencastle where he helped build props for different activities and he served on various committees including the building committee.
He was a member of the Greencastle American Legion, a graduate of the Waynesboro High School and attended college at Mont Alto, PA. Leroy was an avid fisherman, enjoyed wood working, loved animals and enjoyed being with his family and grandsons.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are two sons, Daniel V. Bowman and his fiancée Kristen Laidig of Chambersburg, Franklin Bowman and wife April of Shippensburg; three grandsons, Christopher Bowman, Matthew Bowman, Corbin Bowman, and a sister Faye J. Baker and husband Floyd and nephews Jeff and Tom.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday July 24 at 7:00 PM from the Otterbein United Brethren Church 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle with Pastor David G. Rawley officiating. There will be no public viewing but the family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 5:30 – 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Otterbein United Brethren Church Building Fund 146 Leitersburg St. Greencastle, PA 17225 or to the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter 5051 Letterkenny Rd. West Chambersburg, PA 17201. Online condolences may be given at www.zimmwermanfh.com . Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
