Leonard Eugene Witmer, Sr
Leonard Eugene Witmer, Sr., age 82 of Greencastle, PA went to be with his Lord at 4:00A.M., Sunday, June 7th, 2015 at the Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, PA.
Born June 23rd,, 1932 in Antrim Township, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence W. Witmer, Sr. and Mary E. (Lindsay) Witmer. He married his wife, Kathleen E. (Kline) Witmer on September 24th, 1955 in Shady Grove, PA. Leonard was a member of the Hades Church of the Brethren. He retired from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown, MD in 1988 after 26 years of service. He previously worked at The Frick Company in Waynesboro, PA and was a veteran of the U.S Army, having served during the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, Leonard is survived by ten children: son Leonard E. Witmer, Jr. and wife Roxanne (Sword) Witmer of Hagerstown, MD; daughter Connie E. (Witmer) Horst and husband DeWayne Horst of Hagerstown, MD; son Douglas E. Witmer, Sr and wife Dawn (Karn) Witmer of Greencastle, PA; son Mark D. Witmer and wife Linda (Lister) Witmer of Greencastle, PA; son Bennett E. Witmer and wife Charlene (Myers) Witmer of Marion, PA; son George E. Witmer and wife Tammy (Miller) Witmer of Greencastle, PA; son Nelson H. Witmer and wife Wendy (Showalter) Witmer of Greencastle, PA; daughter Lois A. (Witmer) Sensenig and husband Jay Sensenig of Greencastle, PA; son Daniel H. Witmer and wife Jennifer (Pifer) Witmer of Chambersburg, PA; daughter Rebecca L. Witmer of Greencastle, PA. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Brett Witmer.
Leonard was one of ten children and is survived by brothers Clarence W. Witmer, Jr of Greencastle, PA; Richard D. Witmer of Chambersburg, PA; Lowell T. Witmer of Greencastle, PA; Robert D. Witmer of Greencastle, PA; Glen A. Witmer of Marion, PA; and Henry L. Witmer of Melbourne, FL; and by sisters Joan B. (Witmer) Young of Greencastle, PA; and Mary E. (Witmer) Gsell of Greencastle, PA. He was preceded in death by one infant sister.
The family will receive friends at the Harold M. Zimmerman Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle on Tuesday evening, June 9th, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M, as well as one hour prior to funeral service on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 10th at 10:30 A.M. at the Hades Church of the Brethren near Waynesboro, PA, with interment to follow at Shanks Church of the Brethren in Greencastle, PA.
