Leona G. (Horst) Crider, 93, of Greencastle, PA went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday February 27, 2025 at Mercy House of Chambersburg.
Born near Marion, Franklin County, PA on October 3, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Ralph B. and Maude (Foust) Horst.
Leona was a member at the Marion First United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for the adult women’s class as well as a member of the Greencastle Antrim Christian Women’s Fellowship. She was a longtime dairy farmer’s wife, supported local 4-H dairy clubs, and was a member of the Franklin County Society of Farm Women and served as a board member for the Franklin County Fair. Leona was also involved with the Cumberland Valley Relief Center where she sewed countless health kit bags over the years. She loved music and enjoyed singing in various ensembles and choirs. She was also involved in the Cedar Grove Mennonite Sewing Circle.
She is survived by 5 children and their families. Daughter Eileen (Crider) Flenner (Stan) and their children Gail Young (Matt) and Melanie Ott (Jonathon); daughter Marion (Crider) Weldon (Dave), and their children Scott Jones (Michelle) and Dawn Peachey (Tyler); son Roger Crider and his children Andy Crider (Jenna) and Alyssa Hann (Nathan); son Rodney Crider (Rhoda) and their children Lucy Leese (Nicholas) and Grace Baer (Martin); son Aldean Crider (Dawn) and their children Brandon Crider, Brittney Crider, and Bethany Crider; two sisters Janet Happel and Joyce Horst, and 18 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Crider, in 2006. Together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage, raising their family, working on their family farm in the Kauffman Station area, and traveling throughout the United States for Holstein related conventions. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Horst and Charles Horst and a sister Margaret Rotz
Leona treasured her family, her home, her friends and her church. She spent the previous two and a half years at Transitions Healthcare “Shook Home”
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 4, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Marion First United Methodist Church, 94 Colorado Street, Marion, PA 17235 with interment to follow in Brown’s Mill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday March 3, 2025 from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc. 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, PA 17225 and on Tuesday at the above church and address one hour prior to the service.
