Lauren B. Horst

Lauren Benjamin Horst, age 85, of Scarhill Rd. Greencastle, PA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday evening April 8, 2017 at the Quincy Village Nursing Center.

Born September 11, 1931 in Maugansville, MD, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Martha (Lehman) Horst. He married Betty Jane (Martin) Horst on March 21, 1953.

Lauren served as Pastor of Bethel Community Church in Warfordsburg, PA for 21 years. He had also worked at the former Maugansville Elevator and Lumber Co., he built residential homes and was a supervisor for Choice Books of Franklin County.

Lauren was a member of the North Side Mennonite Church of Hagerstown and had served as a board member for CROSS Inc. of Shippensburg, PA. He also served on the board of the Hagerstown Rescue Mission and was an original board member of the Shalom Christian Academy of Chambersburg. Lauren served in voluntary service in Homestead, FL and while there, he started the Homestead Mennonite Church.

Surviving family in addition to his wife are one daughter Joyce E. Sheeler and husband Timothy of Newville, PA, three sons, Arnold R. Horst and wife Julia of Greencastle, PA, Lester D. Horst and wife Marni of New Smyrna Beach, FL, Richard L. Horst, at home, 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, three brothers, Maurice Horst of Chambersburg, PA, Glenn Horst of Winchester, VA and Lowell Horst of Elizabethtown, PA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Martin, Mary Horst and two brothers Nevin Horst and Amos Horst.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 13 At 10:30 AM at the Mt. Zion Mennonite Church 20544 Benevola Church Rd. Boonsboro , MD with Pastors Gary Zook and Roger Martin officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle and at the church one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to Choice Books 121 S.
