L. Aubrey Mowen, age 87 of 9779 Browns Mill Rd. Greencastle, Pa. and a resident of the Quincy Retirement Home since March 14, 2007 died at 7:00 P.M. Saturday February 23, 2008 in the Waynesboro Hospital.
Born August 9, 1920 in Antrim Twp. Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry C. and Orpha (Johnston) Mowen.
He retired after 43 years employment with the former Fairchild Aircraft of Hagerstown where he worked as a landing gear mechanic. He last was employed as caretaker of the Jerome King Playground in Greencastle.
Mr. Mowen was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greencastle where he was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and had served as a church trustee. He also was a life member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association and a life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 of Greencastle.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Coast Guard and served on the U.S.S. General William Mitchell. He enjoyed gardening and was a fan of John Deere tractors.
He and his wife, Nellie (Sword) Mowen were married February 28, 1942 in New Market, Md.

One daughter, Lorna Painter of Chambersburg, Pa.
One son, Rodman Mowen of Mercersburg, Pa.
One brother, Everett Mowen of Hagerstown, Md.

He was preceded in death by a son Gary Mowen in 2004 and also by ten brothers and four sisters.
A private graveside service will be held at the Cedar Hill Cemetery Greencastle with Pastor Stacy Crawford officiating. There will be no public viewing. Arrangements were handled by the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle.
