Kenneth Robert “Kenn” Baker, age 77, of Greencastle, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, May 1, 2023. Born March 30, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late James and Louise Ebersole Lacy.
Kenn was a 1964 graduate of North Hagerstown High School, 1968 graduate of the University of Maryland, and a 1972 graduate of the former Shippensburg State College with his Master’s degree. He was a teacher in the Washington County Public Schools for 38 years, retiring in 2006. Mr. Baker lived and grew up in Maugansville, MD. He was active in the Boys Scouts, including being Boy Scout Leader, volunteering at the Maugansville Fire Department, and was instrumental in developing the STARS Program at Smithsburg High School. Kenn was a devout man of faith, accepting the Lord on February 13, 1966; he had also served as a Deacon at Grace Bible Church. True to his faith, he and Barb attended Amazing Grace Baptist Church in Mt. Airy (Mayberry), NC while staying at their vacation home. An enthusiast of outdoor activities, Kenn was an avid bicycler, camper, birdwatcher, and photographer. Most recently he enjoyed painting and sketching. He was a skilled carpenter and accomplished Square Dancer; however he was most passionate about studying and teaching the Bible.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara King Baker, whom he married on July 28, 1967, two daughters, Jennifer L. Miller (husband Mac) of Needmore, PA and Allison M. Heefner (husband Steve) of Hagerstown, MD; three grandchildren, Jacob “Jake” Quigley, Noah Hykes, and Zoe Boyer; and a brother, Tom Lacy (wife Shari). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Mark Hykes.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 11 AM at Grace Bible Church, 2327 Hoffman Rd., Greencastle, PA 17225, where Pastors Nathan Hykes and Mac Miller will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 5 from 6 – 8 PM and one hour prior to the service at the above church and address. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Inc., Greencastle, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kenn’s name to the Grace Bible Church’s Building Fund at the above address.
