Katherine S. (Sweigert) Bowers, age 99, a resident of Menno Haven Chambers Pointe Health Center in Chambersburg died Thursday evening September 5, 2019 in the health center.
Born November 4, 1919 near Upton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Alma (Hughes) Sweigert. Her husband Charles L. Bowers died in 1984.
She worked at the former Lowengart Tannery in Mercersburg. Katherine was 1938 graduate of Lemasters High School. She was a member of the former St. Stephens United Church of Christ in Upton.
Surviving family are two daughters, Nancy L. Ott of Chambersburg, Patricia D. Brindle of Fayetteville, one sister, Mabel Doyle a resident of the Shook Home in Chambersburg, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Charles Sweigert and Henry Sweigert and a sister Alma Graham.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday September 11 at 10:00 AM at the Parklawns Memorial Gardens Chambersburg with Chaplain Brenda Doyle officiating. There will no public viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Online condolences may be expressed at www.zimmermanfh.com.
