Karl W. Higgins
Karl W. Higgins, age 98 of Buchanan Trail East Greencastle, PA died at 1:30 AM Tuesday October 27, 2015 in his home.
Born November 27, 1916 in Antrim Township, Franklin County, PA, he was the son of the late Norman R. and Flora (Hoover) Higgins. He married his wife, Mabel L. (Johnson) Higgins on April 5, 1947.
Karl worked for over 30 years at the former Landis Tool Co. of Waynesboro. He was a US Army veteran of World War II having served with the 1262nd Army Air Force Battery.
Karl was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle where he served on church council, was past commander and life member of the Harry D. Zeigler V.F.W. Post #6319 and a member of the Frank L. Carbaugh American Legion Post #373, both of Greencastle.
He also was a member of the Chambersburg AMVETS Post #224 and a member of the Greencastle Sportsman Association. Karl enjoyed traveling and gardening.
Surviving family in addition to his wife are one daughter Teresa A. Reihart and husband Ray of Greencastle, one son, Kenneth W. Higgins of Waynesboro, two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one step-grandson and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Friday October 30 at 10:00 AM at the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle with Rev. William DeHass officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Chambersburg V.F.W. Post #1599 Honor Guard will be in the Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his memory to the Trinity Lutheran Church 1186 Jason Dr. Greencastle, PA 17225.
